Our branch coordinates
a hospital/home visiting program where volunteers reach out
to fellow members and veterans in hospitals and retirement
and long-term care facilities. These dedicated team members
provide companionship and social interaction, and these
connections allow us to identify any needs that should be
addressed.
If you know of a shut-in or ill branch member who would like
to receive a visit or a phone call, please let us know:
visitation480@gmail.com.
Through our Westboro Legion Poppy Trust Fund, we donate to
individual veterans in need as well as to veterans’
organizations and causes such as the Ottawa Veterans Service
Bureau and Leave the Streets Behind, a program for homeless
and near-homeless veterans. Recently, for example, we
donated $10,000 to Perley Health to purchase five new Hi-Lo
beds for this long-term care facility.)
Proceeds from our Wednesday night bingo games go to charity
as do the proceeds from other events and
activities. We have
contributed to such organizations as the Ottawa Food Bank,
the CHEO Foundation, Ottawa Neighbourhood Services, VETS
Canada, and the Military Family Services - National
Capital Region.
